Because You Asked…some FAQs about the website redesign project:

Q. Tell me again, why are we redesigning the Bucknell site? A. Technology and the expectations of our visitors have changed since the current site launched in 2008. Now we have an opportunity to apply new design capacities and technologies to make our site even more effective, memorable and useful for all website users. Q. What will the new design be like? A. Contemporary and lively in design and friendly in tone. We recorded our two recent presentations, where we shared screenshots of how the new site is developing.  Please keep in mind that the videos feature screenshots, not a functional website […]

Preview of Our Next Website

On November 5 & 6 we held two open sessions for the campus where we shared screenshots that illustrate what our next website will look like and described how it will function. We videotaped the sessions in case you missed them. You’ll find the link to the videos at the end of this post. A few things to keep in mind as you watch the videos: All of the content is placeholder These are screenshots in a PowerPoint, NOT a functioning website. You’ll have to use your imagination a bit! Our primary audience is prospective students (followed by current students, […]

Are You Ready for Something Brand New?

Last April, we asked our partner Fastspot to develop a new website for us unlike anything else out there in higher education sites. Fastspot has answered our challenge, and we are ready to share this work-in-progress with you! While we don’t have a working website to demonstrate, we do have screen shots of various portions of the site. There’s still a lot left to do, like sorting out where everything will go and how various portions of the site will function,  but we are far enough along that we are ready for your feedback. Please join us for either […]

Sneak Preview…

Okay, that was a tease. What I mean is that the sneak preview is coming very soon! While I can’t share it with you yet, we have indeed selected a design concept out of the three that Fastspot developed for us. We are now forging ahead with that idea, really scrutinizing every element of that design. We working to figure out the flow of content, the graphic and stylistic elements, various templates and layouts. Fastspot is coming to campus this week to work with the Website Redesign Advisory Group. We will be examining the second (of three) iterations of the […]

Our New Mantra: Less is More

OVERVIEW It’s been a busy summer and the website redesign project has been moving along behind the scenes. In collaboration with Fastspot, our partner for this project, we’ve developed a Creative Brief, which articulates our goals for the new website, and reflects what Fastspot learned about Bucknell throughout their discovery phase. We have also been hard at work on a new Information Architecture (IA) for the site, and have been conducting a Content Audit. Because we challenged Fastspot to design a higher education website unlike any other, our process for the  IA and the Content Audit have been similarly non-traditionally. THE CREATIVE […]

Website Redesign FAQs

After three days full of meetings, the team from Fastspot was able to meet with almost 100 students, faculty and staff. We heard lots of great ideas and suggestions, some frustrations about the current site and the process for maintaining it, as well as lots of enthusiasm for the future. The Fastspot team is now processing what they heard with the goal of drafting a Creative Brief. This Creative Brief, which will outline all of the major creative goals and objectives, will serve as a blueprint for the project. So what does all of this mean for you? Here’s a […]

Goals of the Website Redesign

We launched our current website in the fall of 2008. At that time our use of large, bold photography rotating on the homepage was original and powerful, but a quick survey of higher education sites today reveals that this has become commonplace. When it comes to websites, so much has changed in the past five years — the demise of Flash, the proliferation of smart phones, the growing popularity of tablets, responsive design, mobile sites, and mobile apps, to name just a few. In order to stand out in the crowded field of higher education, we need a web presence […]

Time for a new Website

But first, a trip down memory lane: (click on an image to see full size version)       You might have heard that a new Bucknell website is in the works. The rumors are true! Our goal is to launch a fabulous new site in January 2014. Although the public phase of this project has just gotten underway, we’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Here’s what we have done so far: We set up this blog for communicating the status of the project to the campus. Please ask questions and make comments on any post. […]
